Discharge

There are times in which a child has to be moved from your home due to discharge. Discharge is likely to be to reunify with birth or biological relatives. Although parents and agency personnel may grow attached to the child, we celebrate when a child is reunified, if the birth relatives have indeed done what they needed to do to regain custody of children.

When preparing for discharge:

  1. If you have adequate storage space in your home, maintain boxes to pack a child’s belongings.
  2. Your agency social worker will sometimes request that you pack enough clothes for several days, and make arrangements to come back and get the rest of the child’s belongings.
  3. Be sure to give the social worker the Medi-cal card and any medications.
