Each child will have access to medical care either through the parent’s medical insurance or Medi-Cal. Your social worker will be able to tell you which program applies to each child and help you get the necessary paperwork.
Foster parents do not have to worry about health insurance or health care for the children in their home because all foster children in California are covered under Medi-Cal.
You should receive the child's Medi-Cal card as soon as possible, ideally at the time of placement. But if the card is not available at the time of placement, please contact your agency social worker within 24 hours to follow up on what to do to obtain this important document.
