The number of foster children that can be placed in a foster home varies depending on the size and capacity of the home.
California State Licensing Regulations through the Written Directives and Interim Licensing Standards, set an absolute limit of six children who can reside in a foster home, with no more than four children per bedroom.
This limit of six children includes the number of ALL children permitted in the home, including your biological children. In very rare circumstances, a Department Alternative Plan may be approved to allow families to care for more than the maximum of six. For example, large set of siblings so they are not separated.
